Late NIGht Morning Show

I had an idea for a new Improv show…

I will often leave Chicago’s WGN on in my Family Room while working in my Office. There’s something about hearing something constant in the other room that makes me feel better. I’m sure there’s some science to this.

One day while making my way to get some water, I overheard some dialogue between the anchors about something. I think it was that they used to all hang out outside of work before having families. This was the weird little spark that became a creative improv fire.

What about making an entire Improv show about a Morning Show? We could make up anything we want for the actual news stories and it’ll seem less crazy than current events.

The premise of this show is that the producer (played by me) will have figured out the perfect formula for a Morning Show and that’s to tape it the night before to give them time to edit. I’ll say something like that this can all be made up because nobody listens to the news that early. (I know that is completely untrue, but it’s a funny concept.)

So we’ll start with three top stories. All done using Madlibs that the audience will give suggestions to. After reading the top story, some improvisers will act it out. But they will all have different music starting them off. One song may be sad, the other happy, and one might be tropical. The “Anchors” will have to use this to influence their characters and so will the actors in the reenactments.

Then we could cut to a commercial… Where we’ll come up with one on the spot based on an audience suggestion.

Next up is Sports… Except the sport will be an Olympic sport of something you least like to do in your daily life. With a Sports Caster announcing it live.

Then there’ll be breaking news that the Anchors don’t know all the details about. More Audience suggestions will be acted out and anchors will have to guess what they are announcing.

I got a couple more ideas… But you’ll need to come see the show to find these out.
