Are you a “chronic to-do list person” who wants to be more present but finds traditional journaling too overwhelming? I’ve been there. I have been a constant journaler for a lifetime, but I used to struggle with systems that were too complicated to maintain for more than a few weeks.+4
I created the Daily Log—or what I call my Mindfulness Productivity Journal—to solve that problem. It’s a simple, digital method (though it works on paper, too!) that combines productivity with daily gratitude and mindfulness.+4
Why the Daily Log Works
The secret to this journal is its simplicity. If a routine takes 20 minutes, you’ll eventually slip off and stop doing it. This system is designed to be fast, effective, and divided into two parts: Morning Alignment and Evening Reflection.+4
1. Morning Alignment
This section is about starting your day with intention rather than just a list of chores.+1
- Gratitude: I start with two things I’m grateful for. For me, that’s my health—especially after my kidney transplant—and my home in the Chicago suburbs.+2
- Mindfulness Focus: This is a simple trick to bring yourself back into the moment. My current focus is working out without my AirPods to listen to my body and improve my “mind-muscle connection”.+3
- The Priority To-Do List: This doesn’t replace your main to-do list; it adds to it by highlighting four priority tasks you want to get done first.+2
2. Evening Reflection
Before you close your computer for the night, take a moment to look back.+1
- One Mindful Moment: Write down one time you were truly present—like feeling your feet hit the ground or noticing your breath.+1
- The Daily Win: What was the big success of the day? Even on a bad day, finding one win helps you stay positive against all the bad news in the world.+2
How to Implement It
I personally use Day One for my digital journal, but you can use the Apple Journal app, a Field Notes notebook, or any tool that works for you.+2
The key to organization is using tags. I use #active in the morning and switch it to #completed once I finish my evening reflection. This way, I can always search for logs I haven’t finished yet.+2
Download My Template
I want to make this as easy as possible for you to start. You can download my journal template below to import into your favorite digital app or print out for your notebook.

Remember, it’s impossible to be mindful all the time, but it’s good to bring ourselves back as often as possible—especially before hard tasks.+1
Be safe out there!
